Delamain Cognac Pays Tribute to Late Director With The L’Oiseau Rare

Bird illustrations on the decanter are a nod to one of Jacques Delamain’s books.

A newcomer enters Delamain Cognac’s core range as part of the house’s bicentenary celebrations.

The L’Oiseau Rare will be a permanent addition, blending eaux-de-vie with ‘individual potential’ in a specially crafted ‘foudre’ (a century-old seasoned oak vat) that sits in the brand’s Grand Chai in Jarnac. While it has a lack of any age statement, the house promises it has a  "decades-long period of ageing"

On the nose, the expression is said to have floral notes with hints of spice, which progresses into a barrage of ripe summer fruit and roasted almonds. It also promises orange zest with red fruits, Kirsch cherries and Muscat grapes on the palate.

The Cognac’s name also pays tribute to Jacques Delamain, a former director of the house who had a strong interest in ornithology.  As tribute, the decanter is ornately decorated with various bird species, including a kestrel highlighted in gold. The decanter is also presented in a master-crafted oak wood gift box featuring walnut and birch wood.

On a seperate note, this offering was also created by Delamain’s former cellar master Dominique Touteau, crowning a 40-year career.

The expression will be available from select retailers and travel retailers from July at €1,500 (USD$1,636).
