A fun fact about Fuji Distillery is that the whisky makes use of water that was once snow landed on Mt Fuji that has melted - a process that takes a full 50 years to happen, which is to say snow that first fell when the distillery was first built is now making its way into Fuji Whisky. Quite the poetic fact as the distillery celebrates its 50th Anniversary.

The distillery first distilled its first whisky in 1973 and as such the 50th Anniversary Edition will make use of whiskies distilled in each generation of the 1970's, 1980's, 1990's, 2000's and 2010's.

"This is a single malt whiskey that perfectly harmonizes the deep matured aroma unique to precious long-aged unblended whiskey, the delicate malt flavor that we have cherished so far, and the new fruity malt flavor that we have refined."

Fuji Whisky says that the 50th Anniversary Edition hopes to "pack with it the trajectory of Fuji Gotemba Distillery and the thoughts of the creators of each era". The malt whisky expression combines whisky aged in ex-Bourbon barrels, Oloroso barrels, Wine barrels and more, and is bottled at 52% ABV.

The Kirin Single Malt Japanese Whiskey Fuji 50th Anniversary Edition is limited to 3,000 bottles worldwide, and will be distributed by lottery, with each bottle going for 21,780 Yen (US$158).
