Hampden's Great House Returns For 2026 With Oldest Yet 10 Year Old Tropical Ageing
Born in 2019, Hampden's Great House has become a collector's favourite that has been released annually since, making the 2026 Edition the 8th yet - and this time, it'll be extra special because it'll be the first instance where the cuvee has crossed the 10 Year Old milestone!
The new Hampden Great House 2026 was distilled in 2016 and bottled in 2026, having been entirely tropically aged for a decade in Bourbon barrels. It blends together three of Hampden's marks - the LROK, HLCF, and OWH, which gives it a lean towards a more moderate ester count, and is said to be, "Highly mature yet brimming with freshness, its aroma and flavour palette abounds with exotic, mineral, empyreumatic, and luscious sequences of rare amplitude. Far more than a simple tasting, this Great House invites us to a complete and delicious immersion into the world of Hampden."
Official Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep old gold.
Aroma: Both rich and smooth. Complex, the initial nose is exotic (pineapple, banana, kaffir lime), terpenic (lava), peppery, oxidative (mustard seed, cider vinegar), and empyreumatic (burnt rubber). With aeration, lovely scents of beeswax, varnish, and molasses lend great distinction to the aroma palette.
Taste: Both lively and broad. Marked by flavours of long-macerated exotic fruits, dunder/stillage, clove, and coconut milk, the flavour palette brilliantly embodies the Hampden style. Increasingly empyreumatic (flambéed banana, burnt cane sugar), the finish restores the volcanic temperament of this iconic Jamaican rum.
Finish: Dense, full-bodied. Possessing a delicate, powdery (cocoa), vanillic (pod), and fibrous (sugar cane) touch, it is also spiced up by a volatile acidity (exotic fruit vinegar) that brings great dynamism and freshness. Over time, blonde tobacco, acacia honey, and various infusions (verbena, bay leaf, fresh mint) feed an impressively long retro-olfaction.
The new Hampden Great House 2026 is bottled at 55% ABV, with a total of 5,700 bottles to be released.
