Historic Bourbon Distillery Stitzel-Weller's Blade And Bow Launches Cask Strength Edition Of 30 Year Old At Whopping 82.1% ABV

Following up from Blade and Bow's debut 30 Year Old Limited Release which came in at 54.5% ABV, the brand is now releasing a cask strength edition at a whopping 82.1% ABV!
Laid down at Kentucky’s Stitzel-Weller Distillery in Spring 1993 (one year after operations were mothballed before eventually reopening in 2014) the whiskey's high ABV can be attributed through its many years of steady evaporation.
To preserve the remaining whiskey from an original collection of 96 barrels, Diageo’s director of American whiskey liquid development Nicole Austin,, selected a final 42 for blending. The resultant two distinct expressions are said by her to be "the exact same blend, presented in two distinct ways”.
On the nose, the Blade and Bow 30-Year-Old Cask Strength is said to boast nose notes of citrus oils, dark berries, warm baking spice, fig, molasses, and old oak.
The palate offers roasted nuts, ginger, dark sugar, and blackcurrant, with a cool menthol lift. An addition of water promises further notes of fruit, florals, sweetness, and spice.
Housed in a custom leather presentation box, this release is limited to just 1,200 bottles available in periodic allocations across the U.S.
The release kicks off in November with an initial batch of bottles rolling out across select markets in strictly limited quantities. The Stitzel-Weller Distillery will serve as the first retail destination, offering an exclusive first allocation of just 25 bottles available by reservation starting November 16, with customer pickups scheduled for later in the month. A portion of the 1,200-bottle run will be held back for future distribution.
The remaining distillery inventory of the Cask Strength expression will be released through periodic, limited drops at Stitzel-Weller throughout the holiday season. Each expression is set to have an MSRP of US$2,500 for a 750ml format.
