Italian Wine Producer Bibi Graetz Sets Record For Most Expensive Bottle Of Italian Wine Every Sold

Renowned Italian wine producer Bibi Graetz has set a new record for the most expensive Italian wine sold after a 27-litre bottle of Colore 2016 was purchased by a customer at luxury enoteca ARVI in Zurich for CHF₣100,000 (USD$112,651) at the start of the month.

Based in Fiesole, Florence, Graetz is known for producing Tuscan red wines such as Colore and Testamatta. His wines are appreciated for their distinctive personality and complex flavors.

It was reported that the bottle was bought with a credit card in an impromptu purchase inspired by the bottle's presentation.

We understand how it could have been the case. The bottle was presented in a masterfully crafted case made from the wood of the barrique in which the wine was aged, sheltered by a stainless steel lid, and sealed with Bibi Graetz’s signature.

Graetz grew up in a family of artists and collectors (his father was famed Swiss-Israeli sculptor Gidon Graetz) and in classic Graetz fashion, the label is a painting created by Graetz himself, inspired by the emotions that the 2016 vintage evoked in him.

His upbringing has cause him to take an artisanal approach for his wine, working with small quantities of grapes from selected vineyards, wrapped around a base of unique approach to viticulture and oenology.
