WhistlePig has released yet another edition of its PiggyBack Legends Series - the Alfa Romeo F1 Team Stake Barrel.

We've heard about so many barrels, but this is certainly new - the Rye whiskey was finished in a lychee and oolong tea barrel (🤔) that was then put through the F1 team's wind tunnel in Switzerland, harnessing g-forces to accelerate the whisky's interaction with the wood (😮).

This barrel finish pays homage to the Alfa Romeo F1 Team's Chinese driver, Zhou Guanyu, while its bottling proof of 96.77 (48.385% ABV) is a nod to the team's Finnish driver, Valterri Bottas's F1 car number, 77.

The whiskey is said to have "herbal and floral" aromas, "oolong tea and herbaceous notes of WhistlePig's signature PiggyBack 100% Rye" on the palate and a "juicy tropical fruit finish and a touch of spice" on the finish.

The new expression is currently launched across the US for an MSRP of US$49.99.
