Johnnie Walker Bridges the Gap Between Scotch and Bourbon With The Johnnie Walker Black Cask

Johnnie Walker has unveiled the Black Cask, a permanent expression said to be approachable to both Bourbon and Scotch drinkers.

Johnnie Walker Black Cask is blended Scotch whisky aged in American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels, a process that the brand has said has resulted in a "sweet new experience" specifically crafted to appeal to those who love the classic Bourbon profile, while remaining unmistakably Johnnie Walker.

The final product is said to feature notes of creamy vanilla sweetness, caramel, gentle spice, and smooth oak warmth.

While Bourbon currently claims the lion’s share of the North American market —accounting for roughly 40% to 50% of total volume — it is the Scotch enthusiasts who fuel the luxury segment. According to Diageo, Scotch drinkers contribute a disproportionate amount of the industry's high-end value, as they are significantly more inclined to invest in super-premium bottles.

There is also very little profile overlap between the two categories. Bourbon enthusiasts gravitate toward sweet, approachable notes like vanilla, caramel, and honey, making them rarely venture into the Scotch aisle without a specific nudge.

The launch of Johnnie Walker Black Cask will be supported by a US-wide campaign combining digital and social storytelling, immersive sampling and tasting experiences, and educational programming led by master blender Dr Emma Walker.

The rollout will include a US tour across key regions, including Texas, California, Florida, New York, and New Jersey.

Bottled at 43% ABV, the expression will be available from 1 March in the U.S. with an MSRP of US$34.99 per 750ml bottle.
