Kanosuke Distillery
A spacious distillery of about 9,000 square meters located on a hill with a good view along Fukiagehama on the west coast of Kagoshima Prefecture. Kosho Jozo, the base of the distillery, is a historic shochu brewery that has continued to make shochu, the same distilled spirit, since its founding in 1883.
The barrel-aged rice shochu “Merokozuru”, created by the second generation Mr. Kanosuke Kosho, is still a popular flagship product as a pioneer of aged shochu. In order to carry on the ideas and thoughts of the second generation, who devised aged shochu, which was innovative at the time, to whiskey making, <Kanosuke Distillery>, which was named after the second generation, was born.
In the stylish U-shaped building, in addition to the distillation equipment, there is an original goods shop and a tasting bar overlooking the East China Sea. A major feature of the distillery is that it has three pot stills (distillers), which is rare for a craft distillery. By using distillers with different neck shapes and arm angles, the aroma and flavor of unblended whiskey can be varied. We collect barrels used for a wide variety of sake from all over the world, and the aging warehouse where many barrels that are looking forward to future releases are sleeping is a masterpiece.
