Japanese whisky producer Karuizawa Distillers is partnering with Seibu Group and Furano City, Japan, to construct a new distillery.
Slated to open in 2028, the new distillery is set to be christened as the Furaliss Distillery and will be located in Hokkaido, Japan.
The name combines "Furano" (The city) with "bliss" to reflect its aspiration as a global destination. This vision is strongly supported by the Seibu Group's involvement, leveraging their extensive experience in operating some of the region's top hotels, ski resorts, and golf courses to help establish Furaliss as a premier attraction.

Furaliss Distillery will be Karuizawa Distillers' second venture, following their initial site, Komoro Distillery. Overseeing all whisky production at Furaliss will be the acclaimed master distiller and blender, Ian Chang.
“My goal is not simply to create a place for whisky production, but to build a symbol of growth, rooted in the land of Furano. With deep respect for nature, I hope to offer both world-class whisky and unforgettable experiences here," he said.
The founders are said to also have prioritized sustainability and local community contributions. The distillery plans to repurpose by-products from whisky production, which will then be utilized by nearby farmers, food producers, and restaurants.
