Laphroaig Collaborates With Chef Francis Mallmann For 17 Year Old White Madeira Cask Finish Expression

 

The Islay giant, Laphroaig, is back at it with another collaboration, this time with Argentine chef Francis Mallmann, who specialises in Patagonian cuisine and was even in charge of stoking the grill for actress Gwyneth Paltrow.

 

 

This 17 Year Old expression features a white Madeira-cask finish, which was hand-selected by the Patagonian chef, and features notes of "honey, peat and fruit".

 

 

"Hand-selected by Patagonian chef Francis Mallmann during his visit to Islay. His unique style is an easy alliance with the signature character of Laphroaig, connected through a shared passion for smoke-infused flavours. This special edition is finished in a white Madeira cask."

 

Official Tasting Note

Aroma

Honey-sweet, with hints of mango fading into flaked almonds and Demerara sugar, with heavy notes of tanned leather.

Taste

Peppery and spicy at first, then sweet notes of orange peel and tropical fruit, salted caramel mixed with distinctive notes of peat smoke and sea salt.

Finish

Long and dry finish that warms the mouth and brings out the peat and salt on the lips.

 

 

It is bottled at 54.9% ABV, with a total bottle count of only 300 bottles!
