Limited Edition Royal Lochnagar Release for Coronation of King Charles at Balmoral Castle

"We are delighted to have worked with Royal Lochnagar Distillery, our neighbor here on Royal Deeside, to create such an exceptional whisky for our Balmoral Coronation Edition in celebration of the historic crowning of His Majesty King Charles III."

– Spokesperson for Balmoral Castle & Estate

Nestled in the Scottish Highlands, Royal Lochnagar Distillery has a rich and regal history that dates back to 1845. It was in 1848 when Queen Victoria, a monarch often perceived as humor-free, visited the distillery with her beloved Prince Albert. Impressed by the quality of the Scotch whisky produced there, she granted the distillery the prestigious Royal Warrant, a seal of approval signifying that the product was of high quality and fit for the monarchy. This connection to the Queen and her love for the Scottish liquor elevated the reputation of Royal Lochnagar and Scotch whisky in general.

Now, in honour of the Coronation of His Majesty King Charles III, the Balmoral Castle & Estate and Royal Lochnagar Distillery have come together to create a unique and exclusive limited edition single malt Scotch whisky: The Balmoral Coronation Edition Highland Single Malt.

As a symbol of the King's fond connection to Royal Deeside, this whisky drawn from specially selected casks at Royal Lochnagar Distillery, just a mile from Balmoral Castle, the Scottish home of the Royal Family. The first two bottles, encased in bespoke cases on plinths of Caledonian pine from the Balmoral Estate, have already been presented to His Majesty.

There are 1000 individually numbered bottles available, each bearing a gold engraving of His Majesty's Scottish Cypher, reflecting its royal connection. Priced at £360 per bottle, these exclusive whiskies are now available for purchase via the official website of the Balmoral Castle & Estate or at the Balmoral Gift Shop from the day of the Coronation, Saturday 6th May.

Just a mile from Royal Lochnagar Distillery is Balmoral Castle, the Scottish home of the Royal Family since it was purchased for Queen Victoria by Prince Albert in 1852.

Ewan Andrew, Grantee of the Royal Warrant held by Royal Lochnagar, added, "Everyone associated with Royal Lochnagar Distillery is very proud of our roots in the Royal Deeside community. We have put all of our skill, craft, and heritage into creating this exquisite, rare whisky for Balmoral, and we are honoured to play a part in their celebration of the Coronation of His Majesty The King."

Official Tasting Notes

Nose

Delicate notes of orchard fruits, freshly cut grass and orange peel emerge with dried ginger and liquorice.

Palate

Medium-bodied, sweet and malty, an abundance of fresh fruit.

Finish

Creamy butterscotch and oak spice.

This whisky is bottled at 48% ABV, an homage to both the year His Majesty was born (1948), and the first visit from Balmoral to Royal Lochnagar by the Royal Family - Queen Victoria & Prince Albert – in 1848. Additionally, this strength ensures a harmonious balance of flavors, allowing the light, fruity notes to shine when water is added.

Raise a glass to the continuation of a royal legacy that began with Queen Victoria's love for Scotch whisky, and join in the celebration of the Coronation of King Charles III with this exclusive Balmoral Coronation Edition bottling.

Cheers!
