Macallan Collaborates With Bentley Motors For Limited Edition Macallan Horizon

In July 2021, Macallan announced a partnership with automobile company Bentley Motors to develop co-branded products under both categories.

It seems like the first fruits of the collaboration has come to bear! Macallan released a promotional video showcasing a digitally animated first look at its limited edition Scotch that comes as a result of the partnership - the Macallan Horizon.

The Macallan Horizon is said to embody both traditional craftmanship and the use of innovative materials. The limited edition bottling will sport a horizontal design, reflecting the trajectory of an automobile's movement.

As such, it will have no standing base, hence the decanter must be stored in the case. The decanter twists 180 degrees from the base to the top, demonstrating "the mastery of space and time achieved by The Macallan and Bentley Motors".

“Our collaboration with Bentley Motors and the knowledge exchange we have undertaken as a result has inspired us to see things very differently. In the spirits world, everything is upright, such as our stills and our bottles. When we looked at the horizontal direction pursued by Bentley Motors as part of the automotive industry, it made us consider if and how we could adapt this format for whisky, which ultimately requires to be poured,”

- Jaume Ferras, Macallan's Global Creative Director

“Our prototype for The Macallan Horizon is truly pioneering in both its design and use of materials. It’s a fusion of the sharply defined yet curvaceous Bentley design DNA, The Macallan’s innovation and recycled materials from both iconic British brands. The form of the design has allowed us to almost treat light as another material in itself, and the interplay between light and the wood, aluminium and copper materials is extraordinary.”

Macallan has also highlighted that its Six Pillars foundation has been expressed in this new expression by the use of six upcycled, repurposed or ethically sourced materials, including recycled copper from its stills, aluminium from Bentley's manufacturing, recycled wood, glass and locally sourced carbon neutral leather - which also features in Bentley's new Mulliner grand tourer.

The whisky itself was developed by Macallan's Master Whiskymaker Kirsteen Campbell, inspired by her visit to Bentley Motors.

Currently, only the promotional video and press kit is available, with more details to be released leading up to the Macallan Horizon's launch in the summer of 2023.
