Mars Takes Us Butterfly Hunting With New Mars Malt Le Papillon Loomis Shijimi Triple Bourbon Cask

Mars' next edition of the super collectible Mars Malt Le Papillon series is here!

This time we've got a lovely blue tinted butterfly adorning the expression's label - the Loomis Shijimi butterfly which is is of course a native Japanese species. The expression itself is a Triple Cask Single Malt that is a vatting of three barrels of malt whiskies distilled at Mars' Tsunuki Distillery and aged in ex-Bourbon barrels.

The Loomis is named after its discoverer, an American man of the same name, and is said to be one of Japan's rarest butterflies. This expression is thus inspired by the exotic blue wings of the Loomis butterfly that shines even in the dim evergreen broad-leaved forest.

The Mars Malt Le Papillon series seeks to express the beauty of Japan's natural environment across the four seasons, under which Mars' whiskies too are matured in - it thus features the various butterflies that are native to Japan.

The new Mars Malt Le Papillon Triple Cask Loomis Shijimi was distilled in October 2017 (the oldest barrel) and February 2018 (the youngest barrel), all three of which were bottled in April 2024 at 55% ABV, with a total outturn of 578 bottles to be released via a lottery held on Mars' website here.
