MGP Unveils First Namesake Bourbon MGP Chapter One: Out Of The Shadows

MGP Ingredients, one of America’s largest spirits producers and the Indiana-based powerhouse behind hundreds of third-party whiskey brands, has stepped into the spotlight with its inaugural namesake release: MGP Chapter One: Out of the Shadows

The high-rye straight bourbon coincides with MGP's renaming of its Indiana facility as MGP Distillery, a site that previously operated under the names Rossville Distillery, Seagrams, and most recently Ross & Squibb Distillery.

Reeling from a 42% plunge in whiskey sales in its most recent financial results, MGP has earlier in May paused operations at its Kentucky-based Limestone Branch and Lux Row distilleries in May to adapt to softening consumer demand.

The10-year-old straight Bourbon created by master distiller Ian Stirsman and made with the distillery’s high-rye LBSV mash of 60% corn, 36% rye, and 4% malted barley, after which it is then aged in its Rickhouse G warehouse.

The Bourbon is said to promise nose notes of butterscotch, burnt sugar, molasses, and cherry, with a palate that has cherry cola, raspberries, chocolate, sassafras, and leather.

Bottled at 55.5% ABV, Out of the Shadows will be available in limited quantities nationwide in the US this autumn, with an MSRP of US$69.99 for a 750ml bottle.
