Mount Gay Readies Second Single Estate Series Release 24_02_Vt18d2

Mount Gay appears to be just about ready to unveil the second edition of their Single Estate series.

Recall that sometime in the early 2010's, Mount Gay was preparing for its 230th anniversary which would take place in 2023, marking a massive milestone in the history of the oldest rum distillery in the world.

This involved reviving the distillery's sugarcane fields that was once housed on the Mount Gay's estate. Mount Gay would also specify the use of Grade A molasses that had to be specially produced for the project which saw its first bottling debut in 2023. This of course involved hefty work but in turn created a rum that reflected the Mount Gay terroir that is special for its limestone soils (as opposed to volcanic soils). The first round of harvesting took place in 2016, with the inaugural Single Estate Series bottling undergoing an extended fermentation time, and was subsequently aged for 5-6 years. With its release was a blast of detailed information about the expression on Mount Gay's website.

Well, now we're staring down release #2, which will be bottled also at 55% ABV.

Mount Gay Single Estate Series:

Created from soil to sip with molasses from sugar cane grown on the Mount Gay Estate in St Lucy, Barbados.

Each bottle is coded with the release year, edition, harvest vintage year and distillations in the blend.

This series of rums represent a unique expression of our singular Barbados terroir. The Second Edition 2024 release was matured in American Oak (Quercus Alba) ex Bourbon casks.
