What you need to know:
- Macallan is readying two new annual releases that will kickstart 2022, the Macallan M Copper and Macallan M Black.
- Both will be NAS releases, with the Copper bottled at 42% and the Black at 46%.
- The Copper, which is making its inaugural debut, is an homage to Macallan’s unique stills, while the Black, which has made a fairly regular annual appearance in the Macallan 1824 Masters Series, features Sherry cask maturation, and will come in its usual black Lalique crystal bottle and contain peated Macallan malt whisky.
- Really, the new kid on the block, Macallan M Copper, is what you really want to be looking out for, which also happens to be the most expensive of the three.
Blueprints for two new Macallan annual releases that will kickstart in 2022, “Macallan M Copper” and “Macallan M Black”.
M Copper is NAS, 42% ABV, an “embodiment of The Macallan’s respect for those who have come before [us] and an ode to the Curiously Small Stills that play an integral role in how we craft our precious spirit”.
M Black is also NAS, 46% ABV, an “embodiment of The Macallan’s dedication to mastery and unwavering trust in our craft, celebrated in this subtly smoky, seated spirit encapsulated in hand crafted black Lalique crystal. This was made using “rare, black ended casks holding peated Macallan”, the casks being sherry oak seasoned casks.
"Each whisky comes in a 700ml decanter. The Macallan M 2022 Release is priced at RRP US$6,750 (£5,000); The Macallan M Black 2022 Release has a suggested price tag of US$7,600 (£5,700); and The Macallan M Copper 2022 Release will retail for RRP US$8,000 (£6,250).
The Macallan M Collection is available worldwide in both domestic and travel retail markets, including The Macallan Estate, The Macallan Airport Boutiques, select luxury hotels and bars, and premium retailers."
Our Take
The new kid on the block here is the Macallan M Copper, whilst the M Black has been a pretty regular part of the 1824 Masters Series collection, having been released from 2018 up until 2020. So really, the M Copper is who you want to be looking out for.
The Macallan M Black has mostly been released at somewhere between 7,000 - 8,000 GBP, making it fairly pricey, even if reviews thus far have been pretty positive.
As expected the new set of releases are part of Macallan's premium range and so are priced pretty heftily, with the Copper fairly surprisingly being priced the highest of the three at US$8,000. So if you're curious about how this new expression is, be prepared to fork it over!
