New Take on Aged Patrón Tequila With New Cristalino Bottling

Patrón lovers will soon have a chance to try a crystal-clear version of its famed aged Tequila with the new Patrón Cristalino.

The Cristalino technique is a relatively new one. Believed to have been created in 2010, it is the process of charcoal-filtering an aged tequila again, which results in a clear spirit that looks unaged.

After the agave is juiced, Patrón matures the liquid in four different cask types for 12 to 15 months before being filtered through wood charcoal.

The spirit is said to have notes of sweetened butterscotch, vanilla and lightly cooked agave.

The Cristalino process is said to smooth out the spirit's mouthfeel and oak flavor. Despite its youth, it has garnered a fair amount of popularity, with some considering it the “fifth official” tequila expression behind the classics: Blanco, Reposado, Añejo and Extra Añejo.

This isn't the first time Patrón has innovated to cater to changing palates. The distiller recently rolled out the gold-embellished Patrón El Cielo and El Alto, directed at the glitzy party crowd, while Patrón's Ahumado expressions take after Mezcal with the use of smoked, not steamed, agave.

Patrón Cristalino can be found in select retailers across the U.S. at a suggested retail price of USD$79.
