Nikka Takes Us To The Frontier Fuelled By Peaty Yoichi Malt

What a gorgeous retro vibe this is giving! It's really giving 90's Japan - absolutely love it!

This is Nikka's newest core expression - the first in 4 years since the Nikka Session!

The Nikka Frontier comes as Nikka celebrates its 90th Anniversary, and is going to be a much more accessible expression than the commemorative Nikka Nine Decades launched for the anniversary.

This blended whisky emphasises Yoichi as the key malt in the blend (at least 51%), which is said to give it a fragrant and smoky flavour. The rest of the blend's component aren't disclosed, though it appears to also contain grain whiskies. The idea here, as said by Nikka, is to increase the malt component in the blend ratio, as well as to finish it with non-chill filtering, to give it a richer flavour.

The rich aroma of barrel aging and the pleasant smokiness of the malt spread throughout the nose. The smooth taste is rich, and the sweetness of the ripe fruit is tightened by the bitterness of the peat. It has a sweet aftertaste with soft oak.

The new Nikka Frontier is bottled at 48% ABV, in a 500ml format bottle, priced at an incredibly wallet-friendly 2,200 Yen (US$13.70)!

Kanpai!
