Old Forester has debuted a new 117 Series expression, Old Forester 117 Series Bottled in Bond, which is in a line of whiskies that's designed to "explore and showcase the effects of experimenting with mash and yeast strains, barrel manipulation, maturation environments and more".
The Bottled in Bond (or BiB) is a cornerstone of the American whiskey literature and was legally passed as an act in 1897 that looks to protect the integrity of aged spirits by making sure that whiskies that carry that designation are produced according to specific standards - single distillation season by a single distillery, matured in a US bonded warehouse for at least 4 years, and also bottled at 50% ABV (or 100 Proof).
Hence the new Old Forest 117 BiB is a Kentucky Straight Bourbon whiskey that's bottled from barrels compliant with the BiB requirements - specifically in the season of Spring 2014.
