Popular Mezcal-Maker Del Maguey Brings Classic Vida To New Province Puebla

Del Maguey is nothing short of a force in the world of Mezcals and in its portfolio of Single Village expressions, it is ultimately the Vida that is most popular.

Now, Del Maguey is shaking things up with a new, more "accessible" Vida Puebla expression - 100% Espadin agave, roasted underground, naturally fermented and distilled twice in copper stills.

The classic Vida, traditionally produced in San Luis del Rio, Oaxaca, is now being brought to a new palenque located in Axocopan, Puebla, that is distinct for its minerality of its volcanic rock in Puebla's soil. This new expression is crafted by Aurelio Gonzalez Tobon.

The new expression aims to meet newcomers to the Mezcal category in terms of ease of drinking and at a more competitive price point. It is said to offer hints of citrus, white peach, and candied pine.

"This is an incredibly floral spirit, forward with spicy carnation and lilac balancing perfectly ripe, tropically sweet fruit. It has crisp citrus notes, yet is creamy, round and soft in the mouth, almost like a fresh queso de cabra (goat cheese), and finishes with a delightful finesse, remarkable complexity, and a memorable minerality."

It is bottled at 40% ABV and will be rolled out across the US in July 2023, priced at US$37.99 per bottle.

Available in the US at Binny's.
