Australia's most well known independent brewery Coopers has kickstarted plans to produce their own whiskies after establishing an AU$70 million distillery.
This is a big move for the 162 year old proudly family-owned brewery, with the distillery set up just next to the company's existing brewery in Adelaide.
“Our team has been humbled by the public’s interest, excitement and support as this impressive building has taken shape... We wanted every aspect to be truly world class and of the highest quality. It’s a significant, long-term investment by our family company and our vote of confidence in the future of Coopers and Australia’s manufacturing industry.
Coopers is very proud to have created a highly unique and immersive experience that ultimately celebrates the very best of Australian beer. We look forward to welcoming visitors from across Australia and overseas into our new home... At the same time, our brewing and distilling team is focused on the opportunities that will emerge from the on-site microbrewery and whisky distillery.” says Dr Tim Cooper.
The distillery has been set up with copper stills made in Scotland, along with an onsite restaurant, three bars, tasting room, a microbrewery, and an underground stillage that can fit 5,000 whisky barrels, and of course a dedicated merch store.
The malt that will be used for whiskymaking will come from the next door Coopers Brewery which already does its own malting onsite.
The new destination facility will be open to the public on 28th August 2024.
