Rabbit Hole Extends Founder's Collection With Cask Strength "Nevallier"

What you need to know:

  • Rabbit Hole, the rising star from Louisville, Kentucky, is out with the fourth in their Founder's Collection series - a 16 Year Old, Cask Strength Bourbon, titled "Nevallier".

  • Nevallier will be a blend of 10 Kentucky high-rye bourbons, which was first aged for 15 years in American Oak Barrels, followed by a final additional year in French Oak barrels crafted by Tonnellerie Leroi, a French cooperage from the Nevers and Allier forests in France.

  • Bottles are individually numbered and weigh in at 57.9% ABV with a total of 1,155 bottles available, to be released in June 2022, with an RRP of $895 USD.

  • If you can't get your hands on the Founder's Collection (or your wallet won't allow it), go for the core Heigold or Boxergrail expressions. They are just as good and won't break the bank or have you on a wild goose chase.

“It’s not a cliché for me to say that I go down ‘rabbit holes’ to challenge what bourbon is and what it can be,

This element of exploration and a willingness to take risks is exactly what our Founder’s Collection represents. With Nevallier, I set out to explore how bourbon could be transformed by French Oak and the result is a whisky that is completely unique in relation to the other whiskeys I have produced. Nevallier nudges bourbon past its traditional borders and it is my hope that this one-of-a-kind spirit expands the perception of bourbon among those who have a deep appreciation for fine whiskey.”

Our Take

Rabbit Hole has been churning out some pretty good (and pricey) bourbons for a while now - the Heigold and Boxergrail in particular have been spectacular. The Founder's Collection is obviously a step up towards a higher-end more premium segment and past releases - Raceking, Mizunara and Boxergrail, have all been some great bourbons.

The only complaint is really probably to do with how hard it has been to get hands on one of 'em and just how expensive they are. If they Founder's Collection is too much of a stretch, try going for the Heigold and Boxergrail, which are more easily accessible and alittle easier on the wallet, but just as good.

Kanpai!
