What you need to know:

  • Rampur has debuted the first two releases in their new experimental Jugalbandi series - #1 features a Portuguese Moscatel finish and #2 features a Normandy Calvados finish.
  • Jugalbandi translates to "tied together" and is used to describe an ancient Indian artform where musicians or artists of differing styles are brought together.

India's oldest distillery Rampur took the stage at Whisky Live Paris to debut the first two releases in their new 8-part Jugalbandi series - Jugalbandi #1 and Jugalbandi #2. The word Jugalbandi translates to "tied together" and is used to describe an ancient Indian art form where two musicians with different instruments or styles perform together. As such, the Jugalbandi series seeks to bring Rampur's Indian Single Malt together with more experimental casks, to showcase a more unique side of their whiskies.

“We are always striving to make each Rampur expression of the highest quality and exciting for malt whisky drinkers. I was inspired to create the Rampur Jugalbandi series as I wanted to show how different casks marry together in true Jugalbandi style.”

- Anup Barik, Master Distiller at Rampur Distillery

Rampur Jugalbandi #1 was matured in American bourbon barrels in the North Indian climate and was finished in Moscatel casks from Portugal. It is described by Rampur as showcasing "aromas of lychee, mango and banana, with notes of sweet vanilla on the palate".

Rampur Jugalbandi #2 was also maturedi n American bourbon barrels in the same North Indian climate, but instead was finished in Calvados casks from Normandy. It is described as having "aromas of pear, apricot and honey, with notes of dried apple, apricot and raisin on the palate".
