Martinique historic rhum producer Saint James has been expanding on its exciting project initiated by its Cellar Master, Marc Sassier - a new collection of single vintage rhums bottled at cask strength. The Les Ephemeres range was designed to pay tribute to the great rhums of the Martiniquan distillery.
Together the four-part Les Ephemeres series are released in a sequence of N°1, N°7, N°6, N°5, forming the emblematic date 1765 which marks the founding year of the historic Martiniquan rhum distillery.
We're now into the third release - N°6, which is a cask strength bottling from the 2006 vintage which was distilled in a traditional Creole column. The 15 Year Old rhum agricole was aged in 200-litre American oak barrels.
Official Tasting Notes
Aroma
Beautiful aromatic richness without aggressiveness despite the degree. The attack seduces with the fragrance of walnut kernel. The old wood carries the whole and evolves towards spicy and cocoa notes.
Taste
The attack is warm with a present woodiness. The spices carry the whole and fade in favor of the candied fruits like an old brandy.
It is bottled at 54.4% ABV, with a total outturn of 4,910 bottles, priced at 125 EUR.
