South Korea's Kim Chang Soo Releases First Sauternes Single Cask

South Korea's Kim Chang Soo is set to release its first ever Sauternes Wine Single Cask Whisky release, featuring Korean single malt that has been aged exclusively in Sauternes wine casks for 4 years and bottled at cask strength of 52.4% ABV.

Said to offer a honey-like sweetness that comes from the Sauternes wine cask, the whisky also demonstrates the power of the cask that is the result of the 4 year maturation process, as opposed to a secondary finishing maturation. This combines with the subtle peat smokiness that is the hallmark of Kim Chang Soo's whiskies, which together is said to give a diverse and complex flavour.

The bottle packaging features a orchid flower that is evocative of the spirit of spring time, where "just like the orchid that blooms after overcoming the winter, [Kim Chang Soo] hopes that everyone's lives are filled with pleasant excitement".

Only 66 bottles will be released at 235,000 KRW, with bottles only available for purchase online through E-Mart, Lotte Mart and CU (it will not be made available via physical stores).
