Tanglin Bags Double Platinum in the San Francisco World Spirit Competition 2023

Tanglin’s Black Powder has bagged the Double Platinum medal in the San Francisco World Spirit Competition Navy Strength Gin category - the 2nd time the award has ever been awarded to any gin in the competition’s history (and the first Asian gin to do so)!

The Double Platinum medal is the most prestigious award in the competition to date - where an entry is awarded a Double Gold medal (an unanimous decision across judges to score a spirit the Gold medal) within a category across four years. The Platinum medal is awarded to spirits that have been awarded the Double Gold medal for three years consecutively, clinched by the Black Powder gin last year.

In 2021, Black Powder gin also received the Best in Category (Navy Strength Gin)  award alongside its second Double Gold medal. Alongside Black Powder's string of awards in this year’s competition, both the Orchid Gin and Singapore Gin has been awarded the Gold medal as well.

Tanglin, founded by four friends, takes inspiration from the vibrant hawker cuisine within the cosmopolitan city of Singapore, where their gins are a reflection of spices and botanicals used in Chinese, Malay and Indian cuisine (click here for our distillery deepdive!)

Considering that Tanglin has only started distilling since 2018, this is a huge win for the Singaporean five-year-young distillery! The only other gin that has won the Double Platinum medal in SFWSC is the Poltergeist Gin from Tasmania, within the Unfiltered Gin category.

The San Francisco World Spirit Competition, which started in 2001, is one of the most watched competitions for spirits in the world. Judges blind taste the spirit and evaluate it for quality within its submitted category. Check out the results for this year’s competition here
