Saburomaru Distillery's latest release, named "Saburomaru III THE EMPRESS" is their fourth release in the Single Malt Saburomaru Series, and is notably the first in the series to use Islay Peat. The distillery also introduced a wooden tank in the fermentation process, allowing the wash to take on a more complex aroma.

The series features iconography from tarot cards, and the "Saburomaru III THE EMPRESS" is the fourth to follow "Saburomaru 0 THE FOOL", "Saburomaru I THE MAGICIAN", and "SABUROMARU II THE HIGH PRIESTESS" - all in order of the 22 major arcana from the tarot. 

The distillery released two expressions bearing The Empress motif - one Single Malt "Saburomaru III THE EMPRESS" and one Single Malt "Saburomaru III THE EMPRESS Cask Strength".

The Single Malt "Saburomaru III THE EMPRESS" was distilled in 2020 and this expression has a total outturn of 12,000 bottles. It is bottled at 48% ABV, and retails at 14,850 yen (tax included).

The Single Malt "Saburomaru III THE EMPRESS Cask Strength" is bottled at 60% ABV, with only 1,800 bottles available.
