Italian co-bottler Velier has selected a 2007 vintage Mount Gay to be bottled in its now unmistakeable muscular black bottle.
The Bajan rum from Mount Gay was distilled in pot stills and aged in bourbon barrels, aged 16 years tropically and bottled at 60% ABV.
Official Tasting Notes
Aroma
Fine, complex. Very close to a cognac from the Grande Champagne region, the first nose is tertiary (candied apricot, dead leaf, undergrowth). Allowed to breathe, noble spices (cardamom, nutmeg) and exotic fruits (mango, pomegranate) compete in intensity with notes of precious wood.
Taste
Rich, heady. Change of scenery: flavors of cane sugar, molasses and geranium have taken over the taste palette. Impressive in its vitality, the mid-palate is refreshed by pressed oranges
Finish
Long, fleshy. Fibrous (cane), roasted (coffee) and spicy (ginger, cinnamon), the finish is floral (reseda, hyacinth) and vegetal (pipe tobacco). Then, nuts (walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds) faithfully restore the autumnal character of the aromatic palette.
