A First Foray Into Palm Republic Rum's Jamaican & US Virgin Islands Silver & Aged Rum Blends

Thanks to the @the_rum_cartel, I had the delightful opportunity to sample two rather intriguing rum blends from one of the more recent additions to rum scene — @palmrepublicrum, co-founded by @ebwinter. Both of these blends incorporated rums from the islands of Jamaica and the United States Virgin Islands. However, the aged variant boasted an additional component blend hailing from the region of Panama.

The Silver Rum, or simply the unaged blend, was particularly good. Most brands tend to shy away from crafting unaged blends brimming with flavour, preferring instead more neutral-tasting rums that are straightforward, gentle on the palate, and ideal for mixing. Only a select few, Palm Republic among them, have boldly ventured to incorporate rums from Jamaica into their blend, bestowing upon the rum a unique intensity and tropicality that few others can rival. Consequently, Palm Republic’s Silver Rum is a thoroughly enjoyable sipper, even at 40% abv, with delightful undertones of bananas and coconuts. If I were to venture a guess, I might suggest that the Jamaican rum was likely sourced from Worthy Park Estate.

The Aged Rum, on the other hand, was considerably more straightforward, perhaps even more accessible to most palates. With the inclusion of Panamanian rums, those familiar Spanish-style notes take centre stage, featuring an abundance of vanillin, caramel, and still retaining a decent coconut essence, making it a perfect, hassle-free sipper.
