Rum Reviews

Diamond 2006, 15 Years Old, Versailles Still, REV, Guyana, Bottled by Nobilis Rum, 56.6% ABV

One of the latest releases from @nobilisrum, the Guyana Diamond 2006 REV is truly exceptional, perhaps one of the best demerara rums I’ve had of late. Distilled in 2006 at the Diamond distillery with the Versailles still, this rum is a single cask bottled at cask strength of 56.6% with an outturn of 249 bottles

There is something about its profile that sets it apart from many others, a richness, that big, bold character, and lushness that can be attributed the eight years of tropical aging, unlike most continentally aged ones that are usually crisp and bright. I’d dare say it comes close to the profiles of demeraras from the 70s, which is very impressive in my books.

Unfortunately I don’t have very detailed tasting notes for it, but from my memory, the nose was filled with molasses, milk chocolates, a bit of coffee, dried prunes, very rich and smooth, with slight baking spices and cinnamon. The palate was also rather similar, great structure with a thick mouthfeel, milk chocolates and coffee again, caramel, just the slightest hint of leather and liquorice, with a long, sweet finish full of prunes, slight oak and port wine.

What an excellent rum Nobilis has bottled as their release n.15, and very thankful to @the_rum_cartel for remembering my love for demerara rums!
