Overall - Jikon has been one of my favorite brand of sake since I first tried it last year when I was dining at Himonoya and seems Himonoya is the only place that carries the brand in Singapore or maybe I have not been researching hard enough. Was at Himonoya last night when Singapore finally opened up for 5pax dining again. Ordered a bottle of Jikon Yamadanishiki hiire Junmai Ginjo. This sake is definitely a Kun-Shu type sake as it consist of so many different fruity aromas ranging from snow 🍐, 🍑, 🍇 and even honey. The taste and umami is light which compliments the fragrance of the sake while having a medium body which balances the medium sweetness and making the sake well rounded so that it wouldn’t feel too light and sweet. The sake was paired with Japanese food since I’m at Himonoya and consists of Kani Miso, Chicken Nanban, Asari Clam Soup, Tofu Ikura, Grilled Hamachi Collar and sashimi moriwase. The sake really goes very well with all the food considering the flavor of the food is from light to heavy umami (Kani Miso). The sake is so smooth and easy to drink and really pairs very well with any food. At this point, I cannot think of any food that wouldn’t go with the sake. As a huge Jikon fan, I would say nothing has disappointed me so far and I’ll definitely try more of Jikon if I have the chance. No wonder, there are many people blogging about Jikon on IG. I’m sure that this sake will be well received by ladies as it is on the sweeter and fruity side.
Overall, this is an excellent sake.
