Albert King was BOTD 25th Apr 1923 in Indianola, Mississippi. Along with BB King & Freddie King, they were known as the Kings of the Blues.
The album playing is from 1983 with Stevie Ray Vaughan for a Canadian music TV series In Session. There is no hiding SRV's admiration for King, but also signifies passing of the torch from one blues legend to a rising legend. Albert King's style of playing influenced many guitar legends apart from SRV, including Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton, who pretty much lifted the solo from Oh Pretty Woman and dropped it into Strange Brew.

In the early 60s Albert King found his choice of guitar, a 1958 korina wood Gibson Flying V. A southpaw, he played his right-handed Gibson Flying V upside down using unorthodox tunings. This was replaced by a 1966 Flying V after the original went missing. In the early 70s, King acquired his third Flying V, custom-built by Dan Erlewine. This was his only truly left-handed guitar, made from a 125-year-old piece of black walnut, and remained his main guitar from 1972 until his death. Albert King died of a heart attack on 21st Dec 1992 at age 69 after having played his last show 2 days earlier in LA. He was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
