In 1974 Barnes joined Fraternity briefly, replacing Bon Scott (who went on to join AC/DC), and joined Cold Chisel in 1975 until 1983 when they disbanded. Barnes launched his solo career almost immediately after Cold Chisel broke up.

For The Working Class Man was the 2nd solo album released at the end of 1985 and my first exposure to Barnes, with the MTV of the title track still ingrained in my memory now. I would have heard some Cold Chisel tunes on the radio back then, but was too young to make any connections.

Barnes has remained highly proliferative to date, releasing his 18th solo studio album in 2019, and only last week, announced a commemorative reissue of his 1991 album ‘Soul Deep’, with Australian tour dates in support.
