Foundry Asia x 1880 Presents: An All-Star Hong Kong Bartender Line Up Featuring Jay Khan, Beckaly Franks, Antonio Lai, and Gagan Gurung

In anticipation of the first World 50 Best Bar Awards happening in Asia, the Foundry Asia x 1880 are presenting an epic lineup of world-renowned bartenders for one night only.

On 16th October 2023, the Foundry Asia x 1880 will play host to an all-star line up including: Jay Khan, Bar Owner of Coa (#1 Asia's 50 Best Bar, 2021-2023; #17 World’s 50 Best Bar, 2022), Antonio Lai, Beverage Director of Quinary (#16 Asia’s 50 Best Bar, 2022, #50 World’s 50 Best Bar, 2021), Beckaly Franks, Bar Owner of Artifact, Call Me Al, Ponty CaFE and The Pontiac (Asia's 50 Best Bartender, 2023), and Gagan Gurung, Bar Owner of Tell Camellia and Co-Founder of Singular Concepts (#23 Asia's 50 Best Bar, 2021). This exclusive event celebrates Hong Kong’s most acclaimed bars and bartenders in Singapore and 1880’s foray into their first overseas outpost in Hong Kong, slated to open in Q4, 2023.

The first of its kind in Singapore, this event and collaboration brings together Hong Kong's top mixologists on the World’s 50 Best stage as they present twelve genre-defying cocktails featuring Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Dry Gin and KI NO BI Kyoto Dry Gin.

Breaking records in Asia's bar scene, Jay Khan, owner of Coa, achieves an unprecedented feat by securing the prestigious No.1 spot on Asia's 50 Best Bars list, thrice in a row. Born, bred and proudly Hong Kong, Jay pays strong homage to crafted spirits, while offering the largest agave collection in the city. His cocktail,  ‘Mole Negroni’ (SGD 25++), is a tribute to Coa's Oaxaca-inspired philosophy and features Ki No Bi Gin, tequila reposado, Carpano Antica Formula, Campari, Ancho Reyes Verde, Cacao Husk Tea, finished with a vibrant chocolate button and orange zest garnish.

Antonio Lai, described as the godfather of cocktails in the Hong Kong scene, is an award-winning international mixologist who pioneered the comprehensive Multi-sensory Mixology (MM) concept in the vibrant city – the concept of engaging all five senses in the drinking experience. On the menu at 1880 Singapore, he introduces the Quinary’s signature decade cocktail:  'Earl Grey Martini' (SGD 25++). This refreshing Monkey 47 infused cocktail features a combination of elderflower syrup, apple juice, Cointreau, lemon, lime, and an innovative twist of Earl Grey infused caviar and foam.

Recently taken home the prestigious Asia’s 50 Best Altos Bartenders bar award 2023, the bold, unapologetic and beautiful eccentric persona, Beckaly Franks is known for her successful establishments like The Pontiac, Call Me Al, Ponty CAFé, and Artifact in Hong Kong. Introducing one of Franks’ signature cocktails: a modern twist on classic crushable drinks, the  ‘Black Bamboo’ (SGD 25++) is infused with punchy flavors of Ki No Bi Gin, Black Shallot Vermouth, and Amontillado Sherry.

Born in Nepal and career-raised in Hong Kong, Gaggan Gurung started from humble roots and rose quickly through the Asia 50 Best bar scene with the launch of the city's first ever tea infused cocktail bar, Tell Camellia. At 1880, his menu showcases a personal signature on the menu  ‘Tea Sea’  (SGD 25 ++), a savory blend of Ki No Tea, Genmaicha Tea, oyster distillate and clarified yuzu.

Germaine Woon, Founder of The Foundry Asia, commented on the upcoming event: “We are excited to build a strong bridge of connection between Hong Kong and Singapore, showcasing the incredible talents that embody the essence of movers and shakers on the World 50 Best scene”.
