Another bottle not to miss is the Château Tronquoy Lalande Saint-Estèphe vintage 2018 ($69 per bottle, $15 per glass) also from Bordeaux, France. It pours to a deep ruby colour, dark and intense, while the nose reveals beautiful black fruit notes accompanied by spice and discreet oak. Full on the palate, with good aromatic complexity, powerful tannins and long slightly saline finish, it has been awarded 93 points by James Suckling and 91 points by Wine Spectator.
A red of Italy worth paying attention to is the Ricossa Barolo DOCG Riserva vintage 2017 ($69 per bottle, $15 per glass) from Langhe, Italy. The Nebbiolo, the king of Piedmontese grape varieties, finds one of its highest expressions in the Barolo DOCG Riserva, endowing itself with exceptional completeness and balance as well as great elegance in its tannins and extraordinary longevity. Its nose is deep red with garnet hues; its nose is intense, reminiscent of wilted rose and violet; its palate is full, robust, austere and velvety.
White wines are available such as the Patriarche Père & Fils Rully 1er Cru vintage 2019 ($69 per bottle) from Burgundy, France. This Chardonnay is fresh with hints of flowers, yellow fruits, citrus and a subtle touch of sandalwood or cedar, promising a well-balanced experience. The aromas open well and persist, making it ideal to pair with starters or with fish.
Chardonnay lovers will also love the Moillard Montagny 1er Cru “Les Bouchots” vintage 2022 ($69 per bottle, $15 per glass) from Burgundy, France. It greets drinkers with a complex and expressive nose of white flowers, underlined by some notes of lime. With a generous palate and well-balanced nose of citrus fruits and honeysuckle, this mineral wine with a long finish will pair well with a variety of dishes from white meat and sauce to a plate of shellfish as well as a variety of cheeses.
Champagne is not amiss with the Champagne Albert Lebrun ‘Collection Terroir’ Brut Grand Cru ($69 per bottle) from Champagne, France. A pure Chardonnay Champagne of pale yellow colour with low residual sugar content, it offers a dry and refreshing taste with abundant fruit aromas and complex bubbles. Its elegant and delicate nose, with white peach and citrus notes, makes it lively and fresh thanks to a combination of acidity and minerality. James Suckling generously awarded it 91 points.
