SKLO EVOLUTION Glasses: How Singapore's Sommeliers Are Redesigning the Way We Drink

SKLO EVOLUTION is a freshly launched glassware series; the result of a thoughtful collaboration between the Sommelier Association of Singapore (SAS) and SKLO, a Singaporean glassware retailer. Each piece is handcrafted by Kvetna 1794, a historic Czech glassmaker whose traditions trace all the way back to the 18th century, renowned as the oldest continuously operating glass manufacturer in the Czech Republic.
What makes these glasses interesting is their thoughtfully engineered design. According to Gerald Lu, the President of the Sommelier Association of Singapore, the team put in significant effort during extensive sommelier testing.
"More uniquely, we looked at how to improve torque and velocity, maximise impact aromas, and minimise aromatic loss."
Gerald brings considerable authority to the subject— being a two-time national sommelier champion and has been taking an active role in the regional wine culture as educator, judge and advocate.

The SKLO EVOLUTION series features two glasses tailored to two popular pour sizes—125ml and 50ml. The EVOLUTION 125 accommodates red, white, and sparkling wines. The smaller EVOLUTION 50, meanwhile, has been proportioned to highlight the intensity of spirits such as cognac, whiskey, sherry, sake and other fine liquors.

In addition to enhancing flavour profiles, the design approach behind EVOLUTION incorporated practical considerations tailored specifically for Asian dining spaces. Many contemporary restaurants throughout Asia emphasise efficiency in their layouts, and EVOLUTION glasses thoughtfully complement this trend. Furthermore, proportions have been subtly adjusted to fit the physical characteristics of Asian hands.

SKLO EVOLUTION glasses are now officially available via sklo.sg and selected authorised retailers, priced at SGD $130 for a pair.
