There's always something stirring in the pot at The Kongsee, the modern Singaporean ("Mod-Sin") izakaya set in a heritage shophouse along Singapore's Gemmill Lane. Not just any pot, mind you, but one that's managed by Chef-Partner Willin Low, known affectionately as the Father of Modern Singaporean cuisine. And this time, it's their new lunch menu that's causing all the excitement.
Kongsee has refreshed its midday dining experience by introducing a new menu from Thursday to Saturday, 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. With a set price of S$29.90++, the menu offers a structured meal featuring a starter, a main dish, and a dessert, providing diners a complete gastronomic experience.
The newly-introduced options are a compelling mix of reinvention and nostalgia. Take for instance, the Black Angus Ramly Burger, a classic street food delicacy reimagined, or the Kongsee Ayam Penyet, a traditional dish that's comfort food at its finest. Not to mention the Hae Bee Hiam Pasta, a daring yet delightful fusion dish. The Kongsee's iconic signatures aren't missing either. The revered Roxy Laksa and irresistible skewers make a much-anticipated appearance, alongside these new culinary explorations.
Importantly, The Kongsee shows its inclusiveness by extending its new menu to cater to guests with different dietary preferences. The vegetarian options, like the Masala Brussel Sprouts, Sichuan Dumplings, and Sichuan Soba, are proof that going green doesn't mean you have to compromise on flavor or creativity.
What this new lunch menu signifies, in essence, is a journey. A journey that Chef Low invites you to take with him, as he weaves the narrative of Singapore's hawker culture, its flavours, and its evolution, into each dish served.
Under Chef Low, Kongsee looks to bridge the old with the new, and blend the traditional with the contemporary themes of Singapore's culinary scene. The full set lunch menu can be found below:
