Balvenie 1974 Signatory Vintage (SV) Dumpy Series, 15 Years Old, 57.1% ABV

Tasting Notes

Nose: beeswax, vanilla, wool

Palate: candle wax, watermelon rind, green apple skin, red bean paste

Finish: candle wax, black pepper, elderflower, endless chrysanthemum and honeysuckle stays in your mouth, konnyaku jelly, barley. Did I mention endless? And whetting to boot.

Bottled 1990 (15yo), vatting of ex-bourbon, 57.1%. Incredible industrial, yet smokeless profile. Palate a bit lacking but the finish is magnificent. A solid 90 for the taste and the historic value. But it takes more than scarcity and historic value for me to score 90+.
