Whisky Reviews

Ben Nevis 18 Year Old, 1996-2015, Blackadder, Hogshead no. 1597, 194/261, 56.1% abv.

Of all the IBs, Blackadder is the one I fear the most. I think I've said this a billion times.

Nose: oil on heated metal, mineral-ly, soft sugar sweet aromas, hints of green apple skins, a sort of perfumic apples, floral, some sweet fruit elements. Not as weird as it sounds.

Palate: light to medium body, initial palate is a sweet cough syrup, mid palate shows more apples, more pears, more abv spice, stone fruit flavors and stronger aromas, back palate has light toasted bread, smoked stone fruits (which I realize is quite similar to toasted bread), gets a little oily from here on.

Finish: short to medium, burnt bread, light smoked stone fruits, red and golden apples,

Quite approachable for Blackadder. Curious why it didn't just slay me from the start. Stone fruits seemed to everywhere as more perfumic flavors and aromas contiguously took the front. Although the texture was quite noticeable, it is quite "soft" and light, especially considering the abv.
