BenRiach 34, d.1977, Rioja barrel finish, Cask no. 2588, 241/280, 44.1% abv.
Nose: strong fruity wine, sweet, light fruit juice similar to green grapes and peach.
Palate: a good amount of vanilla and smoke, some sort of oak in there too, tastes like eating a dessert cake with the yellow bread portions interrelayered on white coconut cream, maybe a piece of pineapple in there, but then the wood pops out from the notes.
Finish: medium, some sort of chinese spice, smoothing.
Dry glass: a fruity spongecake!
An amazing one! This Rioja finished single cask is very enjoyable with loads of flavor throughout. Awesome. Strong vanilla and a good amount of lighter fruit juices, balanced, continues to make me think about it. Some of these older Benriach single casks are just amazing.
