Blood Oath, Pact 2, 49.3% abv.
This Luxco limited edition product is a blend of 7 year old high rye bourbon finished in port barrels, 11 year old wheated bourbon, and 11 year old high rye bourbon. Interestingly, when this blend/vat/whatever was released, Luxco supposedly had no whisky/malt distilleries in 2016, making this sourced like all it's other whisky products. Luxco does own the labels to Rebel Yell, a wheated bourbon, as well as Ezra Brooks, a rye bourbon, so rumors are that it's combinations of their own sources. Relase date of 3/6/2016.
Nose: again bbq of all sorts (except mesquite), some citrus, bbq roasted almonds, nutty, almost the same as the Old Fitzgerald 11 Bottled-In-Bond! Confirmed with bartenders too! ( major crackerjacks, major roasted almonds, nutty, caramel bbq popcorn, burnt teriyaki sauce, sweet bbq, smoked pork ribs with some gasoline rub on there, chipotle, low levels of peppercorn, burnt rice in bbq sauce), or am I gone 1 drink in?
Palate: drying, initial palate was woody, honey comes up, spices, spicey peppers like habaneros and "point to the sky peppers", mid palate is some wood, prolonged spices, old soft peaches, more concentrated dark fruits, a little oaky, back palate is honey.
Finish: dry, short to medium, green bell pepper skin, green pepper spices are all over, peanuts, dark fruits are short-lived.
Against the opinions of the bartenders, this one is pretty good, full flavors, bbq, spice, nuttiness, very similar to the Old Fitzgerald 11 Bottled-In-Bond, but more pungent on the nose and lighter on the palate. Finish is a little different too, lighter in aromas and residue. Seems like a younger or lesser Old Fitzgerald 11 Bottled-In-Bond. Very enjoyable though.
