Bruichladdich Octomore edition 7.3, ochdamh-mòr, 5 years, 169 ppm, 63% abv.
Matured in a combination of bourbon barrels and red wine casks from Ribera del Duero in Spain. Actually, the .3 in 7.3 refers to the production and/or maturation process, where .1 means it is matured in ex-bourbon casks, .2 means it is matured in ex-wine and/or ex-bourbon casks, and .3 means it is made from 100% Islay barley, from the Octomore farm in this case.
Nose: cherries, slight smoke, clean, cherries disappear with time and convert to a more general fruity bouquet, then to fruity smoke.
Palate: same feeling as eating a light sugarless chocolate cake, super strong peat, slight wood.
Finish: short to moderate, peat smoke disappears quite quickly leaving a numb tongue.
Dry glass: fruity peat... more aggresive elements than the initial nose.
Damn, strong peat (like all Octomores I've had), strong smoke. Feels like liquid soot and after awhile a slight dryness overtakes my mouth. The aromas tricked me. Mouth is having a hard time processing all these intense elements. Delicious! A little numb on the tongue though. Had this at @polestar_seoul.
Grade: B+
