Bushmills 16, 40% abv.
This Irish whiskey was matured in bourbon and oloroso casks for at least 16 years and then vatted for 9 months in port pipes.
Nose: fruit orchard, fruit vines, almond jello, a little wax, almond food flavoring, fruit perfume, scented wood, cinnamon without the pungent sweetness, quite "fresh" and sweet.
Palate: slightly waxy, initial palate is sweet almonds, a little floral, mid palate has more almonds, becomes more earthy, hints of people stem/top, I swear its a stone fruit orchard or peach farm, back palate also has almonds, almomd jello, a hint/bit of smoke, leads into some heavy stone fruits.
Finish: short to moderate, a little earthy, almond jello residue, hint of pineapple, hint of menthol. However, after awhile its quite juicy.
Dang these Irish whiskies are so hard to describe. The nose is fascinating, can't really describe it, the palate is mostly the essence of almonds in some form or the other, but the finish is too weak. Would love to see this at cask strength, which is basically what Teeling did I believe. Even though its an interesting and well flavored drink, it doesn't feel like whiskey. Feels more like a less sweetened cocktail to be honest, but still amazing.
