Caperdonich 38, 1972-2011, Duncan Taylor, Cask no. 6734, 61/129, 48.3% abv.
Originally known as Glen Grant No. 2, the history of Caperdonich is a brief one. Founded across the road from Glen Grant in 1898 and then closed in 1902, only to be re-opened as "Caperdonich" in 1965 by The Glenlivet and Glen Grant Distilleries Ltd. and then closed in 2002, with demolition in 2010. Almost all their juice went into blends. Sounds like all their stuff is Glen Grant.
Nose: a little salty, meaty.
Palate: mellow fruity, plums, apricots, nectarines, peach skin, not very impactful though, back palate is a little fruity sour.
Finish: medium, a little bit of smoke, boiled meaty fruits, a little tingly.
An interesting one, the bartender said it tastes like peaches, which I think I got the whole "peach family", but not peach flesh flavors. Its got flavor but a little on the mellow side, perhaps because of the "low" abv and my given expectation from Caperdonich products, at least from what others have said... more evidence to not trust others... or that stupid axiom that everyone's palate is different. Dodos were different, what happened to them? Hint: it's not about becoming extinct, it's about how they became extinct.
