I have been trying to taste how the distillate of distilleries with crappy commercialised OBs would taste if treated with respect. Among these is this single cask 11yo Dalmore distilled in 1989 and bottled in 2001 under Douglas Laing's Old Malt Cask series, which is bottled at a solid 50% ABV.
Tasting Notes
Nose: Cantaloupe, butternut squash, honey butter
Palate: Pumpkin, persimmon, very slight hint of sweetened orange juice, butter
Finish: Flaky sea salt, mung beans
Interesting and well made but leaves me cold. Loads of musky-sweet orange vegetables and fruits. A solid 80, mostly for technical achievement over enjoyment. Better than drinking coloured sour wood splinters like Dalmore OB.
