Eigashima Sakura 4, 2010-2015, Cask Ref: 61391, 245/400, 58% abv.
Matured in an ex-Shochu cask for 3 years and finished in red wine casks for one and half years. However Eigashima is quite scandalous as most enthusiasts don't know if it's Japanese whisky or not given it's history of bottling Scotch under the guise of Japanese whisky... and to those that say they can do whatever they want, you are retarded. No one in this world gets to do what they want. And I am pretty sure they purposely packaged scarves and called them turbans.
Nose: initially it has a light fruit-like aroma, hard to describe, but after a while it is major chocolate-honey and honey, background of grass and leaves, everything becomes feint.
Palate: wood, honey, pineapple, initially sharp and intense, but mellows out once it hits the back palate. Flavors are very short. A bread-like wood flavor dominates after awhile.
Finish: long, hot, wood honey.
I'm impressed, this is pretty good. The nose is so interesting because it covers so many aromas with good intensity. The palate is light with short sensations, but good intensity and very enjoyable. Quite interesting.
Grade: C+
