Whisky Reviews

Glen Garioch 10 Year Old, 2010-2020, Provenance, Douglas Laing, Refill barrel no. DL13899, 283 bottles, 46% abv.

Nose: dusty grape juice, syrup, old wood, some old grape juice popsicle sticks, lemons, some weird cough syrup.

Palate: medium body, initial palate has a light grape and wood juice mix, mid palate shows some bitterness bur this disappears on later sips, grape vines, peanuts, gets sweeter on subsequent sips like a sort of toasted cereal honey type, scented lemon juice, cookies, back palate builds body, has a long whiff of smoke, smoked wood, peanut butter, toasted peanuts (shell off), grape juice, hints of cough syrup. Interestingly these smokey elements quickly attenuate on subsequent sips.

Finish: medium, slight bitterness, roasted lemons, chocolate chip cookies, honey which seems to dominate on subsequent sips, roasted peanuts.

One of the unconventional Garys in my opinion. Flavors varied here and there (I wouldn't call it "complexity" but for some I could understand), but the best part was the smoked elements on the back palate. Too bad the pour couldn't consistently re-deliver that part. Didn't even come close to the label notes. Solid grade imho.
