Whisky Reviews

Glen Grant 12 Year Old, b.~2016, 43% abv.

This one was taken out from the bars freezer.

Nose: hints of vanilla, butterscotch, many white wine notes here, totally bourbon cask oriented.

Palate: light body, initial palate is like a syrup overlaying butter, the coldness is sudden, mid palate has graham and suddenly it turns weird, a strange bitterness, old oak, but these odd flavors seem to disappear after the first sip, vanilla shows up as it warms, back palate gets more potent with burnt honey, and it combines the bitterness, sourness, and butterscotch all in one.

Finish: short, the coldness probably makes many flavors disappear, buttery, vanilla.

That was a strange pour initially, but I think evened out with time. The cold temperatures did allow us to distinguish the sweeter and graham flavors easier.
