Whisky Reviews

Glen Grant 23 Year Old, 1998-2021, The Whisky Agency & Sansibar, 10th Anniversary of Sansibar, Sherry butt no. 49295, 467 bottles, 53.2% abv.

See this quite often on secondary. I wonder why... ahhh that bottle count. Huge.

Nose: moderate red fruit and red wine aromas, cherries, light strawberries, peach jelly, light lemon zest, it opens up to a more peachy fragrance, like a lesser irish malt.

Palate: medium to full body but closer to full body, balanced, initial palate has some fruity sawdust, mid palate has some bitter wood, apple and peach rinds, back palate surprisingly has smoke (which creeps up onto the mid palate on subsequent sips), moderate smoked sawdust, light paint, red and golden apple skins, strong pear rinds.

Finish: short to medium, like the aftermath of eating a Washington red apple, light malt, a hint of smoked wood.

This is a very nice sherried malt, balanced, and shows a lot of fruit elements in particular apples. This would make an excellent daily sipper. The smoke-related elements were a surprise.
