Glen Grant 25, d.1980s (d.1985?), Gordon & MacPhail, 40% abv.

Another licensed bottle of Glen Grant by Gordon & MacPhail. The distillery was "officially" founded by John and James Grant, names that will appear throughtout Scotch history, in 1840. Now it is under Campari and is supposedly one of the top Scotch sellers in the world.

Nose: initially light sour purple grape juice, transitions to a sharp soaked white mushroom aroma, young green leaves.

Palate: well bodied, initial palate is malty, mid palate is sweet, back palate is like carbonated honey and bread. The honey and bread flavors move up the flavor chain sequence with time.

Finish: medium, a little dry, dried nut mix. Sweetness disappears.

It's a little strange, the nose has these peculiar earth-related flavors, and then the body of flavors is a honey sweetness that is accompanied by a diverse set of unconventional flavors.

Grade: B-
